How to crochet- Common abbreviations

There are two common types of crochet patterns. One of them uses symbols in a diagram to show the construction (see the diagram in above pic). Most Japanese craft books use this type of pattern for their projects. Once you work out what each symbol means, it's pretty easy to read. If you are a beginner in crochet however, this type of pattern can be quite hard to understand.
The second type of crochet pattern uses abbreviations as instructions, which is much more beginner friendly. Here is a chart of the common abbreviations:

BPsc    back post single crochet
ch      chain
dc      double crochet
dec     decrease
hdc     half double crochet
R       round(s)
rem     remaining
rep     repeat
rnd     round
sc      single crochet
sk      skip
sl st   slip st
st(s)   stitch(es)
tog     together
tr      triple crochet

These abbreviations are commonly used in most crochet books. I will be showing some of the basic techniques and these abbreviations will be used in my later crochet projects.
